About SS-31

SS-31, now the approved drug elamipretide, is a four-residue peptide that binds cardiolipin in the inner mitochondrial membrane. In September 2025 the FDA granted it accelerated approval for Barth syndrome, a rare inherited disease of cardiolipin metabolism, making it the first approved therapy for that condition.

SS-31 calculator questions

How much bacteriostatic water do I add to a 10 mg SS-31 vial?

The calculator does not prescribe a volume; the right choice depends on how large you want each draw to be. As arithmetic: 10 mg in 2 mL gives 5 mg/mL, so each unit on a U-100 syringe holds 50 mcg. Use the “Water to add” tab to work backwards from a draw size.

What concentration does SS-31 have after reconstitution?

Concentration is the vial mass divided by the water volume. For example, 10 mg in 2 mL is 5 mg/mL. Check the certificate of analysis for net peptide content, which is usually lower than the label.
